STEVE - Please dysect this for me. The claims that Mrs Tanner has made.

JOEL - The idea about there being an infinate numbers of Gods in the past and will be in the future is a concept that some past prophets have taught, and something that might be true, but we don't know enough about it to declare it as "official' church doctrine to the world. When she mentions that the verse in Isaiah says there is only one god and that that Mormons say, "well that's for this world", the actual correct response is that there is only one god for this "universe", who made all the stars and planets and galaxies. "And worlds without number have I created;" (Moses 1:33).

When God said, "Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any"(Isaiah 44:8), Jehovah was trying to persuade the Israelites from worshipping the many false gods of their neighbors (See verses 9 - 11), and he wanted them to focus on their God, Jehovah, who is Jesus Christ. For their world and universe there is no other God that He knows of. Even though the LDS might believe in the existence of other gods in other universes, we do not worship them, since they have no authority over us. In 1 Cor. 8:5-6 it says:

"For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him."

Paul is saying that even though there are many gods and lords, we worship only God the Father. We worship Him alone since He is the Father of our spirits (Heb. 12:9) in this universe. We all have parents and are subject to them only and not to our grand parents or great grand parents or anyone else's parents. The same idea applies to God. Therefore, to us there is no other God

Also, there is nothing in the Book of Mormon that would preclude one from understanding that the Godhead is composed of three separate beings, not one being as she seems to think Joseph Smith once believed. She is simply wrong in her analysis of the relevant Book of Mormon scriptures where it appears to say the Godhead is one being. The members of the Godhead are one in purpose (See here)

"What Do Mormons Believe about God" is a terrible title for the video since they are asking exmormons (anti-Mormons) who have axes to grind and books to sell.

(Steve: I don't post all answers to question on this website, so if you want to be sure to get an answer you need to provide an email address. Thanks)
