STEVE - In Book of Abraham... J Smith changes the early refs to God in Genesis to "Gods" - we know of Jehovah or YHWH or just God - who was the other(s) ???
JOEL -
"And then the Lord said: Let us go down. And they went down at the beginning, and they, that is the Gods, organized and formed the heavens and the earth." (Abr 4:1)
These Gods are God the Father, Jehovah, and Michael (who becomes Adam which we learn from the temple), and the "nobel and great spirits" in the pre-mortal life, all of which made up the council of gods.
"Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones;
And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me:
Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.
And there stood one among them (Jesus) that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him (Michael and the nobel and great spirts): We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell; (Abr 3: 22-24)

- who are the "Gods" of the NT ??? -who are the "Gods" now ??
JOEL -
The gods of the New Testament and now are God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.
There are other places in the New Testament where the word "gods" is used but they either refer to manmade gods or the fact that man has the potential to become gods as refered to in the scripture where Jesus says:
"Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?" (John 10:34, Ps. 82:1, 6)

Why on earth did Smith delete the descriptions of Eden that included Assyria, Ethiopia and Euphrates River ??
JOEL -
Because he taught that Eden is actually located in Jackson county Missouri (Joseph Smith/Garden of Eden in Missouri) and he (or God) did not want people to be confused about the true location of Eden because of the places and rivers in the world today that have those same names. Interesting to note that the river that came out of Eden and split into four heads (Gen 2: 10) doesn't really fit with any known rivers in Ethiopia, but does fit well with the Mississippi river which is made from four head rivers; the Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Illinois rivers.
