MARK - Why do the seven day adventist say that the saturday is real sabbath day?
JOEL - They say that based on scriptures in the Bible that say that. But the scriptures they refer to from the Old Testament relate to the Law of Moses which was fulfilled at the coming of Christ. They observe the Jewish Saturday Sabbath because, for example of what Genesis 2:2-3 says:
"And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."
And in the Ten Commandments:
"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." (Ex 20:8-11)
They believe that the seventh day sabbath observance is a law that should last forever for all mankind.
"Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant." (Ex 31: 16)
I have answered a similar question that explains why the Sabbath should be on Sunday at the following page:
