LEHI - We are meant to come to earth and be tested and proved to see if we will do everything the
Lord asks us to do. But, how can the people that will be born after the second coming of Jesus be equaly tested if they won't have satan and
his hosts to tempt them?
JOEL -
Doctrine and Covenants 43:31 says:
"For Satan shall be bound, and when he is loosed again he shall only reign for a little season, and then cometh the end of
the earth."
Both ancient and modern prophets foretold that, at the end of a thousand years of peace (Millennium), Satan would be
loosed, sin be introduced back into the world, and the final battle between good and evil would be waged (Rev. 20:7-8;
D&C 43:31).
Orson Pratt has said concerning this:
"When the period called the Millennium has passed away, Satan will again be loosed. Now the query arises, Will Satan have
power to deceive those who have lived on the earth, and have fallen asleep for a moment, and have received their immortal
bodies? No, he will not. When they have passed through their probation, and have received their immortal bodies, Satan will
have no power over them. Thus generation after generation will pass away, during the Millennium, but by and by, at the
close of that period, unnumbered millions of the posterity of those who lived during the Millennium will be scattered in
the four quarters of the earth, and Satan will be loosed, and will go forth and tempt them," (Journal of Discourses
16:322.)
Those who will be tempted by Satan are those generations of children remaining at the end of the millennium who have not
yet received their immortal bodies.
Those who are born and live and are changed to an immortal body during the millennium will be still be tested, but not by Satan in
the same way we have been, because for them Satan is bound. They still have their agency with the ability to sin during this time,
without the help of Satan. They are saved to come to earth at this time beause the Lord knows that they do not need to be tested
in the same way as the rest of us are.
