LARRY - I read that Moroni was a man who was resurrected in the form of an angel. I thought that Jesus is the only one who has been resurrected "unto immortality" and that nobody else would be until the resurrection of the dead. How is it that Moroni was resurrected unto immortality prior to "the resurrection of the dead?"

JOEL - I don't know of any scriptures that specifically say Jesus was the only one who has been or will be resurrected between His resurrection and the Second Coming. According to LDS doctrine there have been a few others who have been resurrected since Jesus Christ. The Bible speaks of some of those who came forth soon after Jesus:

"And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many." (Matt 27:52-53)

In the New Testament is a letter Paul wrote to Timothy, where he complains of people who incorrectly believe that the resurrection is over:

"Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some." (2 Tim 2:18)

The only others we know of who have been resurrected are John the Baptist, Peter, James, John, and Moroni who all appeared to Joseph Smith as resurrected beings. Their's was a special case because of the mission they were to perform. In order for any messsenger from God to interact with man on earth, such as in the bestowal of priesthood authority, he must be in resurrected form with a physical body.
We expect the next big wave of resurrections to come at the time of the Second coming at the begining of the millennium. Acording to President Joseph Fielding Smith:

"It is the opinion of some that the resurrection is going on all the time now, but this is purely speculation without warrant in the scriptures. It is true that the Lord has power to call forth any person or persons from the dead, as he may desire, especially if they have a mission to perform which would require their resurrection. For example, we have the cases of Peter, James, and Moroni." (Doctrines of Salvation, 1954-1956)
