JCO - Do you have guidance on fasting a good fast when you have to take medication with food and water?.

JOEL - Anyone requiring medication should not refrain from taking the medication during fasting including drinking water with it. If the medication requires taking it with food then you should follow that prescription. A fast can be tailored according to an individual's circumstances and health. Fasting involves a principle of sacrifice—that of denying oneself something so that he or she can become a more spiritual individual. Perhaps you could sacrifice something other than food or drink in order to accomplish this goal, or at least modify the fast so it does not interfere with maintaining your health. You should talk to your Bishop about this one.
