G R Kane - In both the Book of Mormon as well as the D & C, several quotations go like this = Men's hearts shall fail them.Could you please clarify? What is meant by that?

JOEL - Speaking of the end times Jesus said:

"And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken." (Luke 21: 25-26)

It's not like people are physically going to have heart attacks (although that can happen); their hearts are failing out of fear. They are fearful in their hearts because they are not ready to meet God when they die or when He comes again.
Those who are ready and prepared do not fear death; they are not afraid to stand before God.
They have confidence in their hearts because they have done all they can to live the gospel and love and serve God and man.
God told us "if ye are prepared ye shall not fear" (D&C 38: 30)

And if they do that, God has promised:
"For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee." (Isaiah 41:13.)

"Verily I say unto you my friends, fear not, let your hearts be comforted; yea, rejoice evermore, and in everything give thanks." (D&C 98:1.)
