ANNVER - Just wondering, are children's blessings which is done not long after birth considered an ordinance?
If so then why is it taught that baptism is the first ordinance of the gospel when it is only performed after 8years?
JOEL - Any rite performed by authority of the priesthood is an ordinance. Baptism might be called the first "saving" ordinance.
"Saving" ordinances are baptism, confirmation, ordination to the priesthood(for men) and all the temple ordinances.
Other ordinances like baby blessings, the Sacrament, dedication of homes or graves, blessings on the sick and patriarchal
blessings are not "saving" ordinances, but they do of course assist in our efforts towards perfection and eternal life.
They might be called "enabling" ordinances.
