ANNVER - Please if you can help me clarify this issue that has been debated recently at church. When performing priesthood ordinance, does the person who voices say "I" or "we"?? ie. "I" set you apart as or "I" ordain you...etc.
JOEL - As far as I know if one person is doing it(such as Baptism) you use the word "I". If more than one person is involved you use "we". That is how I have always done it and have seen it done.
A letter from the first Presidency of the Church about how priesthood ordinations should be spoken says the following:
"As to the Lesser Priesthood---"By (or in) the authority of the Holy Priesthood I (or we) lay my (or our) hands upon your head and ordain you a Deacon (or other office in the Lesser Priesthood) in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and confer upon you All the rights, powers, and authority pertaining to this office and calling in the Aaronic Priesthood, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen."

The word "we" is also used in the temple for ordinances that are done by two or more people. If someone happens to use the word "I" instead of "we" that does not make the ordinance invalid.
