JOEL - I know it sounds like nonsense that God would allow anyone to make mistakes when it comes to writing His Holy scriptures. God's original words, as revealed through His prophets, were inspired by Him and therefore were perfect and without error. But they were translated and written by imperfect human beings who, as you say do make mistakes. One of the greatest gifts that God gave us is free agency to choose and make decisions on or own concerning what we do here on earth. Everyone has their own personalities based on genetics, their environment, and how they were raised and taught as they were growing up. The Bible scriptures were translated by imperfect humans, who had their free agency to write what they felt was what God was saying to us; their words being influenced by their own personalities and understandings. It would have been nice if God Himself would have written the whole Bible and then we would not have so much confusion. This is why we say in our Church that we believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.
Following are a few examples of errors and contradictions between scriptures one can find in the Bible:

Mark 6:8 And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:

Luke 9:3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves(plural of staff), nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.

Should they take a staff or not?

Mark 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Luke 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

When did they buy the spices, before or after the Sabbath?

Mark 16:8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any [man]; for they were afraid.

Matthew 28:8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.

After the women found the tomb of Jesus empty, did they tell someone about it or not?

Matthew 4:12,17
12 ¶ Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

John 3:22 - 24
22 ¶ After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
23 And John also was baptizing in AEnon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
24 For John was not yet cast into prison.

Did Christ begin to preach before or after John's imprisonment?

John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

John 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

Did Christ tell the Apostles all He knew or didn't He?

James 1:13 "Let no man say . . . I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man."

Genesis 22:1 "And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham."

Does God tempt man or doesn't He?

SAM 2 6:23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

SAM 2 21:8 But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:

Did Michal have children or not?

Mat 27:5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

Acts 1:18 With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out.

How did Judas kill himself?

Gen 47:31 "Swear to me," he said. Then Joseph swore to him, and Israel worshiped as he leaned on the top of his bed.

Heb 11:21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph's sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.

Did he lean on the top of his bed or his staff?

Mat 2:23 ...and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets: "He will be called a Nazarene."

There is no such prophecy in the O.T.

Matthew and Luke give two contradictory genealogies for Joseph (See Matthew 1:2-17 and Luke 3:23-38).

There are places in the Bible where people see God. (Gen 12:7, 17:1, 18:1, 26:2, 32:30, EX 3:16, 24:9-11, 33:11, Num. 12:7-8, 14:14, Job 42:5, Amos 9:1)

There are other places that say no one can see God. (EX 33:20, John 1:18, 1John 4:12)

Those present at Paul's conversion heard the voice but saw no one. Acts 9:7
Or did they see a light but did not hear a voice? Acts 22:9

We are justified by works, not by faith. Matt 7:21, Luke 10:36-37, Rom. 2:6, 13, James 2:24

We are justified by faith, not by works. John 3:16, Rom. 3:20-26, Eph. 2:8-9, Gal 2:16

How are we "saved"?
He that endures to the end will be saved. Matt. 10:22, 24:13, Mark 13:13
He that believes and is baptized will be saved. Mark 16:16
Only he that is born of water and Spirit will be saved. John 3:5
He that believes on the Lord Jesus will be saved. Acts 16:31
He that calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. Acts 2:21
He who confesses with his mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believes in his heart that God raised him from the dead will be saved. Rom. 10:9

If God would not let anyone make ANY mistakes, then how do we explain these contradictions and errors that can be found in the Bible? We can see these errors because the same thing is being talked about in two different places and we can compare them. How can we know for sure that the more important doctrines and teachings we read about in the Bible, that are only mentioned once, have not also been altered because of poor translation? In addition to this, people interpret the scriptures differently. This is why there are so many different Christian religons in the world today, who all base their beliefs on the Bible.
I mean no disrespect for the Holy Scriptures. I love the stories and doctrine and parables of Jesus that I can read about in the Bible. But I am happy that we also have true prophets and Apostles of God in our church today who are able to help us correctly interpret and understand what God is telling us in the scriptures.
