JOEL - Perhaps we're looking in the wrong places for it.
You're right, not much has been found yet, but the
problem is not as absoulte as you are making it out to
be. Actually, I have already addressed most of these
items elsewhere on my site.

Generally speaking I think it is also important to
remember that a religion is based on faith and not on
scientific evidence and archaeological discoveries.
There are also many things about the Bible that have
been "proven" to be false based on the evidence (or
lack of it) according to many scientists, yet people
still have faith in the truths within it. The few Bible-related
things that have been found in the world are because many people
have been searching for a couple thousand years for
them, while very few have been searching specifically
for Book of Mormon evidence for the last 170 years.
God will always require faith from His children to
believe in things that cannot always be scientifically
proven. It's His way of testing us for our suitability
for eternal life with Him and He is not going to allow
it to happen in any other way. If there were absolute
proof there would be no need for faith; if we have no
faith we have no possibility for eternal life with God.
