MIRIAM - Is it true that money changes hands in Mormon Temples? Do you have to rent proper clothing if you don't have the right hat, apron, or slippers?

JOEL - In some of the larger temples a person who does not have his own temple clothing can use clothing the temple has on site. Most of the smaller temples don't provide this option(no room for washing facilities). The small amount of money that a patron is asked to pay, goes towards the repair and washing of the clothes(usually less than a couple of dollars). If a person doesn't happen to have any money they would let him use the clothes anyway without paying. The place where a person gets the clothing is near the changing rooms in an area before going into the ordinance rooms of the temple.
When Jesus cleared the temple of the money changers He did so because they were making a profit from innocent temple patrons within the walls of the temple, selling them animals used in sacrificial rites.
"And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise." (John 2:16)
The church doesn't sell any merchandise within the walls of the temples and it does not make any profit from the few cents that patrons might pay for helping to keep the clothes clean and in good repair.

MIRIAM - Is that the same for the cafeteria? I have noted the prices and they look higher than the mere food costs.

JOEL - Some temples do have cafeterias attached to feed the patrons or temple workers who are there sometimes for most of the day. The prices in the cafeteria reflect the cost for the food as well as the expenses and utilities required to prepare and serve it.(electricity, water, disposables, etc.)
