GREG - As I was reading in Moses, it calls jesus the only begotten. This was before he was born. I know we have been taught 'he is the only begotten in the flesh; because he is gods literal son and mary's. One part human and one part god. The part that's confusing me is that he's called the only begotten before being born in the flesh. If you have heard anything on this topic, that will help me to better understand, it will be appreciated. I've tried to figure it out by the scriptures and through prayer, but I'm not finding my answer, yet. Thanks for your web site.it is a good tool.

JOEL - Jesus is called "Only Begotten" 9 times in the Book of Mormon as well, long before he was born(2 Ne 25:12, Jacob 4:5, Alma 5:48).
"Only Begotten" is more like a title revealed to prophets, that describes the unique nature of Christ's relationship to God the Father. He is the first son in the spirit and the only begotten in the flesh. For a long time prophets prophesied of His coming and through revelation learned beforehand what titles He would be known as; Savior (Isa 45:21-23), Alpha and Omega(Isa 44:6), Prince of Peace(Isa 9:6); Messiah(1 Ne 10:4), Immanuel (Isa. 7:14), Lamb of God(Isa 53:7, 1 Ne 10:10)Jesus Christ(Mosiah 3:8), and Only Begotten(2 Ne 25:12, Moses 1: 6 ), to name a few. After learning what His names/titles would be, prophets would then refer to Him by one of these titles as they taught of His coming in the future. "Only Begotten" would be included as one of these titles; a term reserved exclusively for Jesus Christ. To be the Father's "Only Begotten" in the flesh was something that was in the plans from the beginning of time. Therefore Jesus could be refered to by this title at any point in time before or after He was born.
