DENNIS - Please explained the reference of Jesus Christ being our brother - if Jesus Christ is the creator of our world wouldn't that make him our father vs brother & God would be the Father of all?

JOEL - We believe that God the Father is the literal Father of all our spirits, but you are correct in believing that Jesus Christ can also be considered our Father. In fact there are three ways that LDS consider Jesus as our Father.

1. He is the Father of those who accept the gospel because it is through His atonement that the gospel is made active on the earth. In our Book of Mormon King Benjamin said that for those who enter a covenant with Jesus,

"he hath spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed through faith on his name, therefore ye are born of him and have become his sons and daughters." (Mosiah 5: 7)

Christ is an "Everlasting Father" for those who become His sons and daughters through covenant and obedience to His commandments.
In the Book of Mormon Abinadi said:

"Teach them that redemption cometh through Christ the Lord, who is the very Eternal Father." (Mosiah 16:15)

2. Jesus is the Father of this earth in the sense that He created this earth under the direction of his Father (Eph 3:9, John 1:10). This agrees with your deffinition. Our Book of Mormon says:

"And also that ye might know of the coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and of earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning; and that ye might know of the signs of his coming, to the intent that ye might believe on his name." (Helaman 14:12)

3. He is the Father because of divine investure of authority, meaning that Jesus has been given the power to act for and represent his Father on this earth. (John 14: 10-11)

Even though we worship Jesus as our God and Father, we can also claim Him as our brother. We believe that God the Father is the literal father of everyone's spirit who ever lived or will live on this earth, including the spirit of Jesus. This makes Jesus our brother in the spiritual sense as is indicated in Hebrews:

"Wherefore in all things it behoved him(Jesus) to be made like unto his brethren(us), that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people" (Hebrews 2: 17) .

And in Romans:
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren" (Romans 8:28 - 29).

Because Jesus was the first born in the spirit(See also Doctrine and Covenants 93:21) we call Him our Elder brother, but His relationship to us as our God and Father takes priority over His spiritual relationship to us as a brother.
