JOEL - There really is no official church doctrine that has been revealed to
us by God about this. Church leaders have speculated that our Heavenly Father
was created in the same way that Jesus and the rest of us were created. That He
had a Heavenly Father (who also had a Heavenly Father, etc.) who created His
spirit, and that He received a body and once lived on a planet like we do now,
and died and was resurrected like Jesus was, and then became the God of this
universe.
Our Prophet Joseph Smith once said:
"God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted Man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens." (Journal of Discourses Vol. 6, p. 3)
These cycles of creation may have been going on in the eternal past and may
continue on into the eternal future, which means that anyone of us could become
the God of another universe at another time.
Jesus said:
"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:48)
Why would He tell us to do this if it were not possible?
Of course our
finite minds can not comprehend this, and it really isn't important that we do
right now, except that we try each day to be a little more like Him. But like I
said, none of these ideas about how Heavenly Father was created are official
church doctrine. It is mostly the opinion of church leaders and members, which
may or may not be true.
