CAROLYN - Could you please explain to me how you feel
that it is your right to speak for the Mormon Church?
Many of the questions that are being asked need to be
responded to by an appropriate
representative. Help me out here. Thanks.
JOEL - I don't have the right to speak officially for the Mormon Church, and I make that clear with the
following statement at the head of my "Answers to Submitted Questions" page:
"Although I try to be consistant with teachings of the
LDS Church, these are my own answers and opinions
and should not be considered the official opinion of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."
And at the head of my "Answers to Critic's Questions"
page I state:
"The answers are based on the opinions of many and in
no way are meant to represent the official opinion of
the LDS church."
And the disclaimer at the bottom of my main page says
the following:
"Not an official site of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints"
The last time I checked I live in the United States of
America which gives me the right to express my opinion
on just about anything I want. However, if a General
Authority of the Church were to contact me personally
and ask me to discontinue answering questions about
the Church on my web site, I would gladly do that,
but that hasn't happened yet. And there have been
several of my fellow church members who have written
me, telling me that the information I have provided
has been very helpful to them, some even saying that
it has helped save their testimony and membership in
the Church.
Usually, the only complaints I get are from the
critics of the Church who just want to debate points
of doctrine.
Church members can always write to "an appropriate
representative" to get answers to their questions, but
that can sometimes take a long time to get a response.
I happen to have a large library of books and
resources that have been written by those "appropriate
representatives" that I use to provide my answers. If
you(or anyone else) are aware of anything that I have said that is
incorrect please let me know and I will correct it.
