JOEL - As far as the Word of Wisdom is concerned decaffeinated teas and coffees are not specifically forbidden, although they still contain a small amount of caffeine. A cup of green tea contains about 10 to 20 mg compared to about 1 to 3 mg for decaffienated green tea. The beneficial health effects of green tea comes from antioxidants called flavenoids. Decaffeinating the tea reduces the amount of the flavenoids, which of course would reduce the health effects. If you leave the caffeine in and drink too much of it you can suffer from gastrointestinal difficulties, such as ulcers or diarrhea. It might be better to stick with things like broccoli, purple grapes, orange juice, apples, and berries, which also contain the flavenoids. The decision to drink things like caffienated soft drinks and decaffienated teas and coffees is pretty much left up to the individual.
